Recipes: Labelling Options Pack
This enables you to provide information for product labels, magazines or recipe books. For labels, nutrition information is provided in the format required by the EU Nutrition Labelling Directive (Council Directive 90/496/EEC, as amended by Commission Directives 2003/120/EC and 2008/100/EC). This includes the dietary fibre ccontribution to energy content and the latest Recommended Daily Amounts (RDAs) for vitamins and minerals.

You can generate nutrition panels for front of pack, to help consumers build a healthy diet. This can be in any one of three formats, used in the UK:

1. FSA panel, showing the fat, saturates, sugar and salt contents of the product per serving and indicating whether each of these is "low" (green), "medium" (amber), or "high" (red).
 2. Food industry agreed panel, showing energy (calories), fat, saturates, sugar and salt contents per serving and incorporating the Guideline Daily Amount (GDA) for each (GDAs as defined by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD)).

3. FSA/food industry combined nutrition panel that shows:

  • Energy (calories), fat, saturates, sugar and salt contents per serving
  • Whether each of fat, saturates, sugar and salt contents are "low" (green) "medium" (amber) or "high" (red), in accordance with FSA criteria
  • Percentage of GDA provided by each of these nutrients

You can also:

  • Develop recipes to particular nutrition criteria
  • Prepare label ingredients lists: a rich feature set, saving a considerable amount of time for complex recipes

The Label Ingredient Order (LIO) Calculator enables you to:

  • Combine ingredients, e.g. sage, parsley, rosemary, for declaration as "herbs"
  • Incorporate sub-recipes, e.g. pizza base, with correct placement of each ingredient in the LIO
  • Reconstitute dried ingredients, e.g. dried skimmed milk, for declaration as "skimmed milk", with correct placement of both skimmed milk and the remaining water in the recipe in their correct positions in the LIO

Front-of-Pack (FOP) Label Nutrition Panel Research, May 2009
An independent panel have completed a research study to identify which FOP nutrition panel is best able to help people choose products to help them build a healthy diet. Overall, the balance of evidence demonstrated that the strongest FOP label is one which is the FSA/food industry combined panel, as described above.

The WISP Labelling Options Pack can be purchased for an additional £200 Sterling (€223).
