Licencing options for Tinuviel Products - LiveLicence
What is LiveLicence?
LiveLicence is an Internet-based licencing model for Tinuviel Software products. It provides dynamic licencing for any product and has many benefits for the user.
It is available for CARAT, WISP and QBuilder, with other products to follow.
What are licencing models?
In all licencing models, you need to have something that gives you permission to use the software. That is, some electronic or physical 'token' that says your copy of the
software is currently valid. This usually takes the form of codes given to the user when the software is installed, or paid for, key files, or it can be a security device of some kind that
is connected to your PC.
Do these methods have disadvantages?
For many users, these methods will be satisfactory and have been the main way in which licencing has been managed for a long time. However, they have a number of
disadvantages, such as :
- With software-based licences, the need to obtain codes whenever the software is installed or moved
- Inflexibility, as software needs to be removed from a PC to free-up the licence to be used elsewhere
- The potential of damage or loss to physical tokens (CD-ROM, USB memory device, Dongle, etc.)
What are the benefits of LiveLicence?
LiveLicence means that your licence is managed centrally by Tinuviel Software. There are many benefits, for example :
- The licence is personal, not PC-based. This means that you can install the software on more than one PC and simply use the one you have in front of you
- The licence is updated automatically when your invoice is paid
- You can receive personalised messages within your Tinuviel program, in answer to queries, etc.
Are there any disadvantages?
- Your PC needs to be connected to the Internet whenever you want to run a software session
- If you allow someone else within your organisation to temporarily use the software, this will prevent you starting a session. However, LiveLicence
will tell you which PC is running the session and when it started
