QBuilder - Food Intake Questionnaires
QBuilder enables you to develop food intake questionnaires and calculate nutrient intakes. Food questions can ask about:
  • Frequency of consumption
  • Amount consumed (per day, per week or per occasion)
  • Type of food e.g. type of spread used on bread
  • Any combination of the above

The food composition database contains approximately 5,300 food records. You can add up to 8,000 foods to this. There is also a database of portion sizes for approximately 4,000 food records.

QBuilder has a default set of food frequency responses, but you can define your own set if you wish. For questions that use average portion sizes, different portion sizes can be used for males and females, if required.

Amount of a food can be asked as a weight in grams, number of measures e.g. teaspoons, number of items e.g. apples, eggs, slices, or selection of a quantity from a list, e.g. different portion sizes.

Nutritional analysis of a question can use a single food or a combination of foods. Combinations can be an arithmetic average or a weighted average.

For every question type, there is a wizard to help you complete each item. You can also decide how you would like the program to process questions for which responses are missing. For example, if you use a paper form, subjects may fail to answer some questions.

Nutritional Analysis

For food intake questionnaires, QBuilder automatically generates a nutritional analysis system. This enables you to:

  • Calculate nutrient intakes
  • Obtain mean daily intakes, SD, min, max. and median for a group of subjects
  • Compare nutrient intakes with Dietary Reference Values (DRVs), one subject or a group of subjects
  • Calculate dietary Glycaemic Index (GI) and Glycaemic Load (GL)
  • Examine the contributions of food groups to nutrient intakes, one subject or a group of subjects
  • Examine the effect of dietary advice, one subject or a group of subjects
  • Output an individualised advice report
Outputs include text, bar charts and pie charts.
