Food Labels - Weight Declaration
Nearly all foods must have a net weight declaration on the label. For most foods, this will be the average weight. The average weight system is very strictly controlled, but does permit a small number of cans/jars to weigh a specified small amount less than the declared weight, provided that the average weight is that declared on the can/jar. Refer to the Food Labelling Regulations for detailed information regarding specific can/jar sizes.

The e mark may be given next to the weight statement, only if the net weight is within the range 5g to 10kg or 5ml to 10 litres. The e mark is not compulsory, but is recognised throughout the EC and allows free movement of goods within the EC.
