
Research included ischaemic heart disease and its risk factors. The MRC team conducted the first randomised controlled trial to show that eating oily fish reduces risk of death from a heart attack (Burr, Fehily, Gilbert, et al. 1989). She has about 100 publications, been a member of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Nutrition, often refereed manuscripts submitted to other journals and been a speaker at national and international scientific meetings (EU, Norway, South Africa, Hungary, Russia and Australia).
Food industry work included nutrition labelling. She initiated the placement of product nutrition information on the Company's website and ensured this was frequently updated. She was also a member of the advisory committee for McCance and Widdowson's The Composition of Foods (Fifth Edition, 1991).
With Tinuviel Software, she is responsible for the nutritional content of all company nutritional software design. A number of the company's expert-system products have been designed to capture and build upon her significant knowledge, experience and expertise in nutritional matters. She also wrote the section on dietary assessment for the Manual of Dietetic Practice (Fourth Edition, 2007).
